Hello friends,
During the time since my last post, I've been so super busy with everything from midterms to signing up for Fall classes. Where has the time gone?? The last day for the semester is, I think, May 12th, which is about a month away. That's soooo crazy! I can't believe my first year of college is almost over already. Registration for next fall went fairly well for me, and I'm so excited about my new classes. I'm particularly excited about the Philosophy of Harry Potter class that I'm taking--I'm sure you all know how obsessed I am by now. Before I can get to next fall though, I've got to finish the rest of the semester that lies ahead. This semester has been really tough, but definitely worth all of the effort. I know that I'm growing as a student, even if I'm grudgingly doing so. Thank you Honors Program, for making me a better student, and a better person.
I've also recently applied to live in the new townhouses that are being built on campus. The townhouses, or Rucker Village, will hold 6 students each, with 2 students sharing a bedroom and a bathroom. GC is doing a lot of renovation that should be done with by the start of next fall, so you'll all be pleasantly surprised with the new additions, which, aside from Rucker, include a putting green! My roommate and four of our other friends, who are all pretty active on campus, are really hoping that we are chosen to live there next year, but we'll see how it goes!
I turned 19 on April 1st. Having a birthday on a campus as small as this one is wonderful. Everywhere that I went, someone was telling me happy birthday, even my professors. That's the perk of a small school--everyone is always there to tell you happy birthday, or notice if you're having a bad day, or wave from across Giddings Lawn.
Recently I found out that some of my hard work from last semester had paid off. I was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society for freshmen because of my GPA from last semester, and I was so thrilled about it! Tangible evidence that hard-work pays off in the end is hard to come by, but I now have a certificate that says just that :). I also recently had the pleasure of attending the McCandless lecture here on campus, which was given by Dr. Lynn Robson from Regent's Park College at Oxford (Regent's Park is the college at Oxford that GC has a partnership with). She spoke about Shakespeare, and it was wonderful to learn from her. Having the opportunity to hear her speak made me so thankful that I'm involved with the Oxford Program here on campus!
I'm really pleased to say that I've been given the position of Editor of the Georgetown Review next semester! The Georgetown Review is a collaboration of prose and poetry that people from all across the nation submit to us to have published. It's a pretty big job, and I am so, so, so thrilled that Dr. Carter has entrusted me with this position. I'm looking forward to starting it so much! My first year at Georgetown has been so amazing, and I'm really sad that it's almost over. At least there's one more month left :).
